The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a nationwide enforcement operation targeting vehicles operating without valid registration plates or those with concealed, altered, or defaced number plates.
The directive was issued during the Force’s monthly strategic meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, where the police leadership raised concerns over the increasing use of unregistered and obscured vehicle identities by criminals.
According to the directive, all Commissioners of Police, tactical commanders, and heads of formations across the country have been instructed to immediately begin enforcement operations.
The police said vehicles found in violation of registration requirements would be stopped, impounded, and subjected to legal procedures in line with existing laws.
The Inspector-General noted that proper vehicle registration remains a critical tool for crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and effective policing, warning that criminals often exploit anonymous or concealed plates to evade detection.
He further stressed that enforcement will be carried out uniformly nationwide, with no exemptions for offenders.
Motorists have been advised to ensure their number plates remain valid, properly displayed, and free from any form of concealment or alteration, as the nationwide crackdown takes effect immediately.
