President cites major gains in Nigeria's counter-terrorism campaign, saying intensified military operations have eliminated thousands of terrorists and weakened insurgent networks across the country.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that more than 13,000 terrorists were neutralised within the past year as Nigeria continues its intensified campaign against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

The President made the disclosure while highlighting his administration's security achievements, stating that sustained military pressure and improved coordination among security agencies have significantly weakened terrorist groups operating across different parts of the country. He noted that the successes recorded in recent months demonstrate the government's determination to restore peace and stability nationwide.

According to figures released by the Presidency, over 13,000 terrorists were neutralised in the past year alone, while more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents surrendered to authorities as a result of ongoing military operations. The government also reported that over 124 terrorism-related convictions have been secured, reflecting efforts to strengthen both military and judicial responses to insecurity.

Tinubu said the administration has adopted a multi-pronged strategy involving enhanced intelligence gathering, stronger inter-agency collaboration, improved border security and sustained offensives against terrorist enclaves. These measures, he said, have contributed to a substantial reduction in terror-related fatalities and attacks across affected regions.

The President further warned terrorists, bandits and kidnappers to surrender or face the full force of the law, insisting that the government would not relent in its efforts to eliminate threats to national security. He commended members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices and professionalism in protecting lives and property.

Recent government assessments indicate that terror-related deaths in Nigeria have declined significantly in recent years, a development officials attribute to sustained counter-insurgency operations and improved security coordination. The Presidency maintains that while challenges remain, ongoing military successes and increasing surrenders by insurgents are signs that the fight against terrorism is yielding positive results.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to securing every part of the country, assuring Nigerians that security agencies would continue to pursue and dismantle criminal networks until lasting peace is achieved.
