A devastating flash flood along the Nepal-Tibet border has killed at least 165 people, with more than 1,300 others still missing, including hundreds of foreign tourists.
The disaster, which struck on Wednesday, followed the collapse of a Himalayan glacier, sending a massive surge of water, mud and debris through communities in Nepal and China's Tibet region.
The floods swept away homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, while severely disrupting transportation and communication links in the affected areas.
Rescue teams, including Nepalese security forces and helicopter crews, are continuing operations to locate survivors and evacuate people from affected communities. Authorities say the difficult mountainous terrain and continuing adverse weather are complicating the search.
Among those reported missing are hundreds of foreign nationals, including tourists and pilgrims from India, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
The scale of the disaster remains unclear as authorities on both sides of the border continue to verify missing-person reports and recover victims.
