The Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI, of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has provided financial support to 1,638 widows of fallen military and police personnel as part of efforts to cushion the impact of losing their breadwinners.
The intervention, announced on Thursday at the second edition of the RHI Social Investment Programme for Widows of Fallen Heroes in Abuja, amounted to ₦819 million, with each beneficiary receiving ₦500,000 to either start a new business or recapitalise an existing one.
Of the total beneficiaries, 1,315 are widows of fallen military personnel, while 323 are widows of deceased police officers.
The First Lady said the beneficiaries were families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty from 2023 to date, adding that the intervention was designed to help the women rebuild their livelihoods and provide for their children.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady for the initiative, describing the gesture as a demonstration of national gratitude and compassion toward families whose loved ones paid the ultimate price in service to the country.
He assured the bereaved families that the sacrifices of their loved ones would not be forgotten, while reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
