Terrorists have killed a vice principal and two others during a deadly attack on Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack, carried out by armed men who stormed the community in the early hours of the day, also left residents in panic as security forces engaged the assailants in a gun duel. The attackers were reportedly targeting students sitting for ongoing WAEC examinations before they were repelled by a swift response from security operatives.
Community sources confirmed that the victims included Mr. Gani Anifowose, the vice principal of the school, alongside two other residents killed during the invasion. Although fears initially spread about possible mass abduction, authorities later said security intervention prevented a larger tragedy.
In a related development, the Edo State Government has ordered the immediate closure of three public secondary schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. The directive followed intelligence reports warning of planned attacks on schools and possible kidnapping attempts targeting students.
The twin incidents have heightened concerns over the safety of schools across Nigeria, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect educational institutions from armed groups operating in rural and border communities.
