The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
Aondoakaa emerged through a consensus arrangement ratified during the party’s congress in Makurdi, following consultations among party stakeholders and aspirants. Reports indicated that several governorship hopefuls stepped down and endorsed his candidacy in the interest of party unity.
The PDP congress also produced 38-year-old ICT expert, Dr. Oyije Ogbenjuwa, as Aondoakaa’s running mate ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Party officials described the move as part of efforts to blend experience with youthful leadership.
Speaking after his emergence, Aondoakaa pledged to focus on security, agriculture, infrastructure and economic revival in Benue State. He said the state was facing difficult challenges and required purposeful leadership capable of restoring public confidence in governance.
The former justice minister also called on PDP members to remain united and mobilise support across the state ahead of the election, insisting that the party was prepared to reclaim power in Benue.
