Gunmen have killed three worshippers and abducted 15 others during an attack on a prayer ground in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack occurred on Saturday night at Ori-Oke Ajaiye, located on the outskirts of Ikiran village, where members of a church congregation were reportedly holding a night vigil when the assailants stormed the area and opened fire sporadically.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, describing the assault as gruesome and unacceptable. Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said security operatives had been deployed to the area while tactical and intelligence teams commenced rescue operations to secure the release of the abducted victims and track down the attackers.
According to reports, the attack happened during a vigil organised by a church identified as Ijo Ajaye Ati Igbala in Ekerin village. Witnesses said worshippers fled in different directions as gunshots echoed across the community.
The latest incident has heightened tension in parts of Kwara State, coming amid growing concerns over recurring attacks and kidnappings in several communities across Nigeria’s North-Central region
