The Cross River State Government has selected 1,000 young Cross Riverians for a six-month training programme in electric vehicle repairs, maintenance and tricycle coupling.
Chairman of the Cross River State Youth Empowerment Scheme, Dr. Kalita Joseph Aruku, said the initiative is aimed at developing the technical manpower needed to support the state’s growing investment in electric mobility.
Aruku disclosed that Governor Bassey Otu initially approved the training of 100 youths but expanded the programme following strong interest from residents.
The training, implemented in partnership with the Federal Government and Shema Energy, is valued at more than 600,000 naira per beneficiary and will be provided free of charge, with participants also receiving monthly stipends.
The programme will be conducted in Calabar and Ogoja to improve accessibility for beneficiaries across the state.
Aruku also said additional youth empowerment opportunities are being planned for those who were not selected.
