The Federal Government has commenced the payment of additional exit benefits to retirees of Treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.
The National Pension Commission, PenCom, says about one-point-one billion naira has so far been paid to 175 retirees who exited the Federal Public Service between January first and August thirty-first, 2026.
The payment is being made under the Federal Government Exit Benefit Scheme, which became effective from January first, 2026.
Under the scheme, federal civil servants who have served for at least ten years are entitled to an exit benefit equivalent to one hundred percent of their total annual emolument at retirement.
The 2026 Appropriation provided 32-point-nine billion naira for the scheme, while the Federal Government has so far released 12-point-three billion naira into a dedicated Exit Benefit Scheme account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
PenCom says the additional benefit is separate from the normal pension benefits retirees receive from their Retirement Savings Accounts.
It explained that retirees are required to submit documents, including clearance letters and recent payslips, to their Pension Fund Administrators for verification before payment is approved.
PenCom says the scheme is expected to provide additional financial support to retiring federal civil servants and strengthen the benefits available to workers under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
