The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Edo State Command, has destroyed five cannabis farms and arrested three suspected drug traffickers in separate operations across the state.
The state commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this on Monday, saying the farms covered a combined 2.27 hectares with an estimated yield of more than 5,600 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The farms were located in forests across Ovia South West, Owan East and Owan West Local Government Areas.
The command also intercepted large quantities of illicit drugs, including 590 bottles of codeine syrup, 50,000 capsules of Tramadol, 100 tablets of Tramadol 225mg and 25,000 tablets of Diazepam.
One suspect, Jamie Zubaru, was arrested in Auchi in connection with the intercepted drugs, while Sunday Segun and Hassan Mohammed were also arrested in separate operations.
Ofoyeju expressed concern over the spread of cannabis cultivation in Edo forests, calling on local government chairmen to collaborate with the NDLEA to curb the trend.
