At least nine people, including a pastor, have been killed in fresh attacks across communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The attacks reportedly occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning, leaving residents in fear and forcing women and children to flee some affected communities.
Five of the victims were passengers travelling to Gana-Ropp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area when they were attacked on Saturday night.
A youth leader in the community, Ukasha Garaba, confirmed that the bodies of the five passengers were evacuated from the area, saying they were travelling as labourers.
In a separate incident at Dorowa Babuje, two people, including a pastor, were reportedly killed while on their way to church on Sunday morning.
A woman was also reportedly killed at Baten Wereng in Riyom Local Government Area, while another person was killed at Ratyidi in Fan District.
The attacks have reportedly heightened tension in the affected communities, with gunshots heard around Kantoma and surrounding areas.
The Berom Youth Moulders condemned the killings and called for stronger security measures, while the Mwaghavul Development Association urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, saying the state will continue to work with security agencies to confront violence and restore peace.
