Real Madrid and France forward Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he came close to joining Liverpool in 2016 while he was still playing for Monaco.
Speaking to The Athletic, Mbappe said his mother, Fayza Lamari, strongly favoured a move to Anfield and was a big admirer of then-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
According to Mbappe, his mother visited Liverpool during the early stages of negotiations and was impressed by the club and the atmosphere at Anfield.
Former Liverpool manager Klopp has also revealed that the club arranged a private jet to bring Mbappe and his family for talks, as Liverpool attempted to convince the teenager to join the club.
Mbappe, however, said he ultimately chose Paris Saint-Germain because he wanted to remain in his hometown and establish himself in France.
He later spent seven years at PSG before joining Real Madrid in 2024.
