President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election with 10,999,162 votes, securing the ruling party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
The results of the nationwide direct primary, conducted across the party’s 8,809 wards in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, were announced at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, former Senate President Pius Anyim.
Tinubu defeated his only challenger, businessman Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes in the exercise. The APC committee said over 12 million registered party members participated in the primary election.
Declaring the result, Anyim said Tinubu satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines to emerge as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 election.
Following his victory, Tinubu thanked party members for their support and pledged to continue his administration’s economic and infrastructural reforms if re-elected for a second term. He acknowledged the hardship caused by some government policies but insisted the reforms were necessary to reposition Nigeria’s economy.
The outcome of the primary has, however, generated debate among political observers and opposition figures, with some questioning the scale of the vote tally and the transparency of the exercise, while APC leaders defended the process as credible and democratic
