The Cross River State Government has disclosed that it invested more than ₦17 billion in the education sector between 2023 and 2025, resulting in the successful delivery of 229 educational infrastructure projects across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Stephen Odey, made the disclosure during a Town Hall Meeting on education sector reforms in Abuja, where he highlighted the administration's achievements in improving access to quality education.
According to the commissioner, the funds were accessed through intervention programmes of the Universal Basic Education Commission following the state's consistent payment of counterpart funding. He noted that the resources enabled the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, installation of boreholes in schools, and the provision of more than 23,000 customised furniture items for pupils and teachers across Cross River.
Odey also pointed to the remodelling and digitisation of the state library complex as a major milestone in the government's drive to strengthen learning and research opportunities. The facility, commissioned by Vice President Kashim Shettima, is expected to improve access to educational resources for students and researchers.
The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Bassey Otu to sustaining reforms in the education sector, stressing that the administration remains focused on expanding educational opportunities and improving learning outcomes across the state.
